MEETING REGARDING FUNDING FOR CROSSING GUARDS—MONDAY, APRIL 30TH (7PM)—CITY HALL
Hello Ocean View Families! Due to budget cuts and loss of funding from University of Calfornia, Berkeley, our Crossing Guard funding, has been severely cut and we are at risk of losing our funding for the upcoming school year. We need your help in voicing your opinion to let the City of Albany Police Chief know how important our crossing guards are to the safety of the Ocean View Community.
Before winter break, we had two crossing guards helping to control traffic (one at Solano/Jackson and one at Buchanan/Jackson). We are so lucky to have Doug help our families stay safe and cross the busy intersection of Buchanan and Jackson, but we have a lot of families who use the Solano/Jackson intersection and currently we are without a crossing guard there. There is a four way stop sign at Solano/Jackson and with the advent of traffic apps diverting cars from the traditional throughfares of Albany, there is increased traffic and safety hazards for our kids. How can you help?
1. Attend the City of Albany Traffic and Safety Commission Meeting this Monday, April 30 at 7:00 p.m. at City Hall (1000 San Pablo Avenue). Police Chief Mike McQuisten will be at the meeting and the most effective way to get another crossing guard is to make our voices be heard in person. Lucky for us, the crossing guard issue is the very first topic on the agenda at7:00 p.m. sharp so we will be at the top of the meeting. We need to show up in force to create change and reinstate funding for our crossing guards (Marin and Cornell each have two crossing guards)
2. Sign the petition at Change.org (https://www.change.org/p/police-chief-keep-our-ocean-view-community-safe) showing your support for the funding for our crossing guards. This is an easy way for us to show collectively how important the crossing guards are to our community.
If we do not make our voices heard, there will continue to be a gap in keeping our kids safe. It is our responsibility to take action so we can defend the safety of our community. Thank you for helping to make our Ocean View community safe! Ocean View PTA
