Principal's Message

WELCOME TO A NEW SCHOOL YEAR AT OCEAN VIEW SCHOOL!

The 2014-2015 school year is upon us and as we prepare for the opening of school, I extend a warm welcome to all our new families and look forward to catching up with our returning families. This year promises to be a productive year, as we embrace the second year of our transition to the California Common Core Standards.

You can take comfort in knowing that you are sending your children to one of the finest and most diverse schools in the East Bay. We start this year focused on, as we have for the past couple of years, building community with an emphasis on what we like to call the 3 B’s: Be Responsible, Be Respectful, Be Safe. All members of our community are called upon to be good Otters (our mascot).

School opens Tuesday, August 26th with all students beginning at 8:30 AM. The K-3 Early Bird/Late Bird Schedule will begin Tuesday, September 2nd.

As educators we work to keep a close eye on the goal to prepare ALL students for success in the world that lies beyond our doors, towards college, in careers, and life. This year as we continue our transition to the Common Core State Standards, we will focus on strengthening students’ skills for depth of knowledge while adjusting our teaching to achieve these goals. It is our mission to give ALL students the kind of 21st century skills that will help them become critical thinkers and contribute to their communities.

So, I welcome you to the 2014-2015 school year, and together with your support we can achieve these goals. It is an honor and privilege to work with such fine students, families and staff.
