PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Hello Otters,

We have been having many fun activities in and out of school. Half of our 5th graders participated in a Ropes Course Field Trip where students courageously grappled up trees and made their ways through some courses in air.  They learned to trust themselves and each other.

Our PTA also hosted our first movie night last Friday.  Everything was awesome, as students enjoyed snacks and the Lego Movie.  Thank you to our parent volunteers for continuing to provide our community with family fun events.

We are looking forward to another exciting week with Halloween parades on Friday 10/30/26. Please see the parade schedules below in the newsletter.

Your student can wear their costume to school, but please abide by the following guidelines:

  • Costumes should not depict gangs or horror characters

  • Costumes should not be scary for our youngest students

  • Masks are allowed only during the parade and must not obstruct vision

  • Costumes may not demean any race, religion, nationality, handicapped condition or gender

  • No fake fingernails

  • No weapons, even fake ones

  • Make sure your child can walk in their costume

Parade Viewing - Families and friends are welcome to attend Ocean View’s annual Halloween Parade. Kindergarten will have their parade at 9:40am and 1st-5th grade will have their parade at 1:45pm.  The parade viewing areas are outside of school grounds in the coned off drop-off lane in front of the school, and in front of the parked cars in the North Staff Lot. The parade will travel along the sidewalk in front of the school.  All parent visitors will need to wait outside of the school to view the parade.

At the conclusion of the 1st-5th grade parade, and once all grades have returned to their classroom, we will open the gates for parents to visit their child’s classroom and sign their child out early if they choose.  If you do plan to sign your child out early, please be sure to sign your child out with their teacher. Please check-in with your teacher, as many will be holding their Halloween festivities after the parade. Friday is NOT an early dismissal day. Your student will be marked as "left early" if you choose to take them out before the end of the day.

NOTES FROM THE OFFICE

Clothing Donations

We are in need of clothes for our little otter accidents. If you have clothes between the sizes of 6T and 10/11 kid size, please drop it off in the office. Pants/Shorts and Shirts only. Thank you!

Sports Donation

We are in need of just 1 or 2 more football/soccer balls for our recess time. Please drop it off in the office. Thank you!

Drop Off in the Morning

Please remember to respect the drop off zones.  Cars should not be left unattended and parked in the front drop off zone between 7:30-9:30am.  Also, the small parking lot has a limited number of spaces, do not park in the Accessible Parking spaces, or the area next to the accessible parking.  This is not a parking space and needs to be kept clear for passenger accessibility.

Play Structures

Please note that our campus play structures are off limits for public use when the school day ends at 1:30pm for TK and Kinder students and 3:05pm for students 1st-5th.  This includes the small playground near the staff parking lot. This park is being utilized by the aftercare program. There is an Ocean View Public Park located behind the baseball field/tennis courts outside of the school campus if you are looking for a playground after dismissal.

Entrance Gates

South Front Gate (TK/Kinder): will be open from 8:00-8:30am.

Central Gate (1st-5th): will be open from 8:15-8:30am.

School starts at: 8:30am. Tardy slips start at 8:31am.

If your student comes in after this time, stop by the office for a late pass. If your student goes straight to the classroom, they will be sent down to the office.

Illnesses

If a student has been absent for 10 days due to medical/illness within the school year, we are required to ask for a doctor's note to excuse any medical/illnesses after the 10th day. Any medical/illnesses already excused by a doctor in the first 10 days of absences are not counted toward this requirement. If your student is absent due to fever, they must be 24-hour fever free before returning to school without use of fever-reducing medication. Report all absences to ovattendance@ausdk12.org

Health Forms for Kindergarten Families

Kindergartners need to have the Oral Health Form completed by their doctor/dentist and on file in the school office before the start of first grade.

Please submit electronically to ovattendance@ausdk12.org
