PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Hello Otters,

A short but fun week was had! On Tuesday we had a special visitor at lunch time to celebrate reaching our Fall Festival goal. While we are still waiting on our final fundraising numbers, we know we crossed that $40,000.00 threshold and we are so thankful for all of your support.  Thank you again to all of our families for attending the Fall Festival and helping us provide financial support to our school.

Also, thank you to all of our families who joined us at our Friendship and Unity sing along this past Thursday.  All otters where reminded of the importance of kindness and friendship.

INFORMATION REGARDING Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE)

Last week, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) activity was reported across the Bay Area.  Please be assured that Albany Unified School District stands firm in our commitment to provide safe and inclusive schools for all students and families, regardless of immigration status.

Consistent with our Board Resolution 2016-17-13, Declaring Albany Unified School District a Safe Haven School District (see also the Spanish version), AUSD follows clear protocols in the event of any ICE activity or inquiry. These protocols ensure that:

  • No student or family information is shared with immigration officials.

  • We do not allow immigration enforcement onto a school campus unless presented with a warrant signed by a judge and reviewed by the AUSD legal team.

  • Students remain safe and supported throughout the school day.

Helpful resources include:

OV is extending the offer to any family who feels uncomfortable taking their students to school due to concerns over ICE, to reach out to the office or PTA, and we will set your family up with a volunteer to help walk your child to and from school. We will keep this confidential and no information will be shared. If you would like to volunteer to help your fellow community members by walking students to and from school, please reach out to us as well.

The emails you can reach out to in order to set this up are as follows:

•adelgado@ausdk12.org

•jafloresarias@ausdk12.org

•president@oceanview-pta.org

If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to reach out.

NOTES FROM THE OFFICE

Clothing Donations

We are in need of clothes for our little otter accidents. If you have clothes between the sizes of 5T and 10/11 kid size, please drop it off in the office. Pants/Shorts and Shirts only. Thank you!

Drop Off in the Morning

Please remember to respect the drop off zones.  Cars should not be left unattended and parked in the front drop off zone between 7:30-9:30am.  Also, the small parking lot has a limited number of spaces, do not park in the Accessible Parking spaces, or the area next to the accessible parking.  This is not a parking space and needs to be kept clear for passenger accessibility.

Play Structures

Please note that our campus play structures are off limits for public use when the school day ends at 1:30pm for TK and Kinder students and 3:05pm for students 1st-5th.  This includes the small playground near the staff parking lot. This park is being utilized by the aftercare program. There is an Ocean View Public Park located behind the baseball field/tennis courts outside of the school campus if you are looking for a playground after dismissal.

Entrance Gates

South Front Gate (TK/Kinder): will be open from 8:00-8:30am.

Central Gate (1st-5th): will be open from 8:15-8:30am.

School starts at: 8:30am. Tardy slips start at 8:31am.

If your student comes in after this time, stop by the office for a late pass. If your student goes straight to the classroom, they will be sent down to the office.

Illnesses

If a student has been absent for 10 days due to medical/illness within the school year, we are required to ask for a doctor's note to excuse any medical/illnesses after the 10th day. Any medical/illnesses already excused by a doctor in the first 10 days of absences are not counted toward this requirement. If your student is absent due to fever, they must be 24-hour fever free before returning to school without use of fever-reducing medication. Report all absences to ovattendance@ausdk12.org

Health Forms for Kindergarten Families

Kindergartners need to have the Oral Health Form completed by their doctor/dentist and on file in the school office before the start of first grade.

Please submit electronically to ovattendance@ausdk12.org

AUSD COMMUNITY

Dear Albany Community,

SchoolCARE (www.albanyschoolcare.org), our all-volunteer nonprofit dedicated to raising funds for vital staff positions in Albany schools, is looking for new board members!

For the past 25 years, we’ve supported staff positions that make a lasting impact on students’ education—but we can’t do it alone.

We urgently need passionate new board members to help with fundraising, event planning, community outreach, and more. No experience or special skills are needed—just your enthusiasm and a little of your time. The board meets virtually just once a month for an hour and twice a year for longer in-person meetings.

Sign up at: www.albanyschoolcare.org/volunteer.html

Join our committed team and help us continue supporting public education in Albany!
