Posted Date: 05/13/26 (05:00 PM)

Dear AUSD Community,

We are excited to officially welcome two outstanding educational leaders to Albany Unified School District. Last night, the Board of Education approved the appointments of Jen Corn  as the new principal of Cornell Elementary School  and  Dr. Virginia “Ginger” Cook as the new principal of Marin Elementary School. Both leaders will officially begin their roles on July 1, 2026.

Jen Corn brings more than two decades of educational experience and a deep commitment to equity, student achievement, and inclusive school communities. A bilingual educational leader fluent in Spanish, Jen has served as a teacher, literacy coach, principal, district administrator, and elected school board director. Throughout her career, she has championed strong family partnerships, instructional excellence, and systems that ensure all students, especially historically underserved students, feel supported, respected, and empowered to thrive.

Dr. Virginia “Ginger” Cook brings more than 25 years of experience as an educator, instructional leader, and advocate for equity-centered schools. She has served as a teacher, district coach, consultant, and principal, leading initiatives that strengthened students’ sense of belonging, student achievement, professional learning, and family engagement across multiple school systems. Ginger is deeply committed to fostering inclusive, student-centered learning environments where every child feels supported, challenged, and inspired to succeed.

Both leaders emerged from a rigorous and highly competitive process that included engagement with staff, family, and community members. We are deeply grateful for the time and care our stakeholders invested throughout the selection process.

Please join us in welcoming Jen and Ginger to the AUSD team. We are excited about the leadership, experience, and heart they will bring to our schools and look forward to partnering with them to support all students, staff, and families.

With gratitude,

Sara Stone

Superintendent
