PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Hello Otters,

This week was eventful for our students! One of our 3rd grade classes spent the day at Lawrence Hall of Science and our 5th graders showed their inventions in a 5th grade exhibition. It was so fun to hear what they learned on their field trip and their process in building their creations!

Our principal, Ms. Delgado has been recovering from a medical issue. We send her all of the well wishes! Ms. Reimuller and Ms. Sinclair will be joining us next week, they had previously subbed for Ms. Delgado and have gotten to know our students very well!

Reminder: No School Monday, 1/19/26 - MLK Jr. Day

Thank you,

Raising Healthy Gamers: What Parents Need to Know
Led by Reichi Lee of Healthfully, this research-based workshop will help parents better understand kids’ gaming behavior and learn practical strategies to support healthy, balanced gaming habits at home. Wednesday, January 22, 6:15–7:45pm, Ocean View Elementary – Multipurpose Room. Pizza and childcare will be provided (childcare is limited, so please RSVP). RSVP here so we know how much pizza to order and can plan for childcare. Hosted by the Cornell, Marin & Ocean View PTA Boards.
NOTES FROM THE OFFICE

Student attendance is of utmost importance for students' success in school.  Please make every effort to have your student in school each day for the full day, barring illness or one of the other EdCode excused reasons.  Please be aware that per EdCode, a 30 minute+ tardy or early pick-up counts as an absence, and will show up on your child's attendance record in Aeries under the "O" code.  We want to partner with you in your child's success and school and attendance is the greatest indicator of their sense of belonging and academic success.  Thank you for your understanding and support.

Campus is open at 8:00am for breakfast in the MPR. Please do not bring your student and drop them off before 8:00am. There are no supervisors on campus at this time. The play structure is also off limits until 8:15am when a supervisor (in yellow vest) is present.

ALBANY COMMUNITY

Active Transportation and Watershed Management Expo

The City of Albany is holding an Expo on  Thursday, January 22, 5:30-7:30pm at the Albany Community Center, 1249 Marin Avenue. The Expo is an opportunity for community members to provide feedback on the Active Transportation Plan and the Watershed Management Plan. The Active Transportation Plan outlines opportunities to improve the City’s future bicycle and pedestrian networks. At the Expo, review draft active transportation projects and help set project and policy priorities. The Watershed Management Plan studies storm-related water flows and identifies best management practices. The Expo offers the chance to help identify existing stormwater management issues.

Voices of Music Voice and Recorder Classes

Voices of Music is offering two kinds of music classes starting on January 14, 2026:

Wednesdays after school, Albany students in grades 2–5 are invited to learn to play the recorder, begin to read music, play rhythm games, and play songs from many countries around the world. Small class sizes allow for individual attention and foster ensemble skills. The teacher is Greta Haug-Hryciw. Singing classes are offered for students in grades 3–8, by Tim Silva. The children will learn how our voices work with the songs we sing, and they will begin to read music, sing, play, and have fun together! No prior musical experience is necessary for either class. See the flyer for more information.
