Science Olympiad Division A Teams Are Forming Now!
What is Science Olympiad, and what is Division A?
Science Olympiad is a nationwide competition where students compete in STEM-related challenges across topics like earth science, biology, chemistry, physics, and engineering.
Division A is the elementary division, where 3rd–6th graders can compete by constructing a vehicle made of pasta, decoding ciphers, identifying stars, and more. Tests for Division A students are designed for 4th and 5th graders, but 3rd and 6th graders are welcome to participate!
The 2025-2026 Bay Area Elementary Events are:- Anatomy Academy: identifying organs and tissues and explaining their functions (Nervous, Sensory Organs, and Endocrine Systems)
- Are You Sirius!?: constellations, stars, planets, and other astronomical phenomena
- Carbon Crunchers: Teams will complete tasks related to environmental problems and solutions related to water, including identification, analysis, and laboratory investigations
- DaVinci Decoder: Teams will decode, cryptanalyze, and solve encrypted messages using classic and modern techniques
- Mystery Architecture: Teams will be given a bag of materials and instructions for designing and building a Structure that can be tested
- Sherlock Foams: testing mystery powders, matching fingerprints, and using chromatography to identify items found at a crime scene and solve the crime
- The Penne Express: design, build, and test a vehicle made from pasta, to traverse a ramp and lane in a specific amount of time and distance
- Watt’s Up: Identifying and constructing electrical currents and circuits
- Team Work: Physical skills, including science questions in a relay-style race
Team Formation Guidelines: - Teams can have up to 8 students from the same school- 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders are the primary participants, but up to two 6th graders per team are allowed
- Homeschooled students may choose to participate as a member of the Elementary Science Olympiad team at the local public school they would attend were they not homeschooled.
- We recommend having a team of 8 friends of a similar age group to ensure compatibility amongst the students
- Each student will take on 2 events with a partner, and every student on the team will compete in the Teamwork Relay
