Dear OV Families and Friends,

As November fast approaches, we know that this year comes with new fears and anxieties. With SNAP benefits being withheld, we understand that many families are worried about not just the upcoming holidays, but how they will afford basic necessities like food on a day to day basis.

Below, we are attaching some resources that can help during these hard times:

Local Pantries

• Albany School Food Project-- (Various resources); On this home page, you will find different local resources for various food pantries/food banks

• Berkeley Youth Alternative-- Provides food for families every second and fourth Tuesday of the month, 11am-1pm and 4pm-6pm

• 9th Street Pantry (1925 9th Street, right off University)-- Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11am-6pm. Be prepared to fill out a one page application. No income restrictions.

Nearby Restaurants/Orgs Helping SNAP Recipients Affected

• Monster Pho in Oakland (360 40th St. Oakland, CA)-- Families on SNAP get 25% off and kids 12 years old or younger eat for free 

• Al Pastor Papi  (232 O'Farrell St. San Francisco, CA)-- SNAP recipients can get up to four free burritos per week

• Devil's Teeth Baking Company (1 Embarcadero Center San Francisco, CA)--SNAP recipients get a free sandwich up to four times a week

• St. Anthony Foundation-- Provides warm meals every day at its dining room, located at 121 Golden Gate Avenue

Apps

• DoorDash's "Emergency Food Response" initiative--  Makes deliveries to customers on behalf of food banks and pantries throughout the country

• Too Good to Go-- App (download in app store) where you can get discounted foods from various grocery stores, bakeries or restaurants in your area

Federal Programs

• The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP)-- USDA program where you can get monthly boxes to groceries; must fill out application to apply. Link to California program managers and sites to contact for help if needed. Send email or call phone number of TEFAP state program manager for applicant information to apply.
