PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Hello Otters,

This week we had our first field trips for the year. Our 4th graders enjoyed walking and spending time at Albany Public Library. They were even able to get a library card and check out books.

Our fifth graders also had their annual 5th grade field trip to Ropes Course Challenge Sonoma.  During their trip, they experienced team building and they really worked to defeat their fears.

NOTES FROM THE OFFICE

Parking

The parking lot on the corner of Buchanan and Jackson is for staff only. Thank you for keeping these spaces open so teachers can park and get to your students' classroom on time!

Play Structures

Our campus play structures are off limits for public use during and after school hours, this includes the small playground near the staff parking lot. These parks are being utilized by the aftercare programs. There is an Ocean View Public Park located behind the baseball field/tennis courts outside of the school campus.

Entrance Gates

South Front Gate (TK/Kinder): will be open from 8:00-8:30am.

Central Gate (1st-5th): will be open from 8:15-8:30am.

School starts at: 8:30am. Tardy slips start at 8:31am.

If your student comes in after this time, stop by the office for a late pass. If your student goes straight to the classroom, they will be sent down to the office. All parents/guardians must leave through the main office when gates are closed. Please do not open any gates.

Illnesses

If a student has been absent for 10 days due to medical/illness within the school year, we are required to ask for a doctor's note to excuse any medical/illnesses after the 10th day. Any medical/illnesses already excused by a doctor in the first 10 days of absences are not counted toward this requirement. If your student is absent due to fever, they must be 24-hour fever free before returning to school without use of fever-reducing medication. Report all absences to ovattendance@ausdk12.org

Celebración Latina Latino Heritage Month is here! Celebración Latina will be Saturday, October 4, 11am–2pm at Albany Middle School. All are invited to come and celebrate! Now more than ever, it is important for our community to come together to represent our rich culture through dance, song, etc. During the first hour of the event, we ask students and their families to perform a dance, sing a song, play instruments, read a poem, or share facts about their cultural traditions or country of origin. Sign up to perform here.

Familias Latinas’ Read-Aloud Project

The Read-Aloud Project is another way we honor our cultural heritage this month. Please volunteer so that all students in TK through 5th grade have the opportunity to have a Latinx person in their classroom reading a book and sharing their experience. We need more volunteers to reach this goal the week of September 29th! Sign up to read aloud here.
