PTA CORNER

NOTES FROM THE OFFICE

Parking

The parking lot on the corner of Buchanan and Jackson is for staff only. Thank you for keeping these spaces open so teachers can park and get to your students' classroom on time!

Play Structures

Please note that our campus play structures are off limits for public use when the school day ends at 3:05pm, this includes the small playground near the staff parking lot. This park is being utilized by the aftercare program. There is an Ocean View Public Park located behind the baseball field/tennis courts outside of the school campus.

Entrance Gates

South Front Gate (TK/Kinder): will be open from 8:00-8:30am.

Central Gate (1st-5th): will be open from 8:15-8:30am.

School starts at: 8:30am. Tardy slips start at 8:31am.

If your student comes in after this time, stop by the office for a late pass. If your student goes straight to the classroom, they will be sent down to the office. All parents/guardians must leave through the main office when gates are closed. Please do not open any gates.

Illnesses

If a student has been absent for 10 days due to medical/illness within the school year, we are required to ask for a doctor's note to excuse any medical/illnesses after the 10th day. Any medical/illnesses already excused by a doctor in the first 10 days of absences are not counted toward this requirement. If your student is absent due to fever, they must be 24-hour fever free before returning to school without use of fever-reducing medication. Report all absences to ovattendance@ausdk12.org

Health Forms for Kindergarten Families

Kindergartners need to have the Oral Health Form completed by their doctor/dentist and on file in the school office before the start of first grade

Please submit electronically to ovattendance@ausdk12.org

AUSD COMMUNITY

Celebración Latina Latino Heritage Month is here! Celebración Latina will be Saturday, October 4, 11am–2pm at Albany Middle School. All are invited to come and celebrate! Now more than ever, it is important for our community to come together to represent our rich culture through dance, song, etc. During the first hour of the event, we ask students and their families to perform a dance, sing a song, play instruments, read a poem, or share facts about their cultural traditions or country of origin. Sign up to perform here.

Familias Latinas’ Read-Aloud Project

The Read-Aloud Project is another way we honor our cultural heritage this month. Please volunteer so that all students in TK through 5th grade have the opportunity to have a Latinx person in their classroom reading a book and sharing their experience. We need more volunteers to reach this goal the week of September 29th! Sign up to read aloud here.

ALBANY COMMUNITY

California Coastal Cleanup Day

The annual Coastal Cleanup Day is this Saturday, September 20, 9am–12pm at the Albany Bulb. This is a great opportunity to come together with neighbors to protect our beautiful coastline and make a positive impact on the environment. Wear layers, a hat and/or sunscreen, and close toed shoes. All cleanup supplies will be provided, but please bring a bucket, reusable gloves and a water bottle if you can to help us reduce waste. Special "trash" items will be hidden at cleanup sites all across the state. If you find one of them, you can redeem it for prizes!

Entries must be submitted by October 15. The contest is open to Albany students and residents. Approximately 60 haiku will be selected and displayed throughout the City from November 2025 through January 2026. Learn more or submit your Haiku at www.albanyca.org/FallIntoHaiku

SUPERINTENDENT'S UPDATE
Our children spend much of their day at school—it’s almost a second home. We want them to feel a sense of pride toward their school facilities, in addition to a sense of belonging. TikTok and other social media platforms sometimes promote “challenges” that encourage vandalism or damage to school property. We are asking for your partnership in talking with your child about the importance of caring for our schools. Our shared goal is to keep every campus clean, safe, and well-maintained, ensuring they remain welcoming spaces for learning, friendship, and growth. By helping students understand the impact of their choices, we can work together to ensure our facilities stay places we can all be proud of.
