AUSD Video Presentation—How Are Schools Funded?

How AUSD is funded and how well we are funded may be quite different than how many assume. This video of the online presentation given at the Albany High School PTSA meeting on November 13, 2023 by AUSD's Chief Business Official shows our funding sources and how they compare to nearby districts. These slides were presented at the Ocean View Elementary PTA meeting earlier this month and CBO Kim hopes to deliver it at PTA meetings at Cornell and Marin Elementary Schools and Albany Middle School in the coming months.

donations that's how the school district get funding do you see the screen changes or no no I'm okay so you know what let me do something that's okay I think so and so let's talk about fun I know it's School District which are majority of school districts in California is about 33 million dollars our property tax that we get from our community is about 11 million dollars so when our bucket is about please on the stick formula so if even if we get a table 11 million dollars from the sky that's because of our higher property what happened to those not the Saint Helena in Menlo Park Palo Alto School District what different and it is also 33 million they're probably text is 50 million Beyond so do they get to keep everything from the local so even because is there a GFS on formula funding meaning when we get these two nations were fees there's a specific purpose comes with it is very restricted when school carrots give us about 250 every year comes with how they designate how they want us to spend the money so here is noon time out the program do some of the workers compensation 157,000 this is something interesting so what it is is when our employees are out insurance pays cuz they are hurt today we can pick hey inside and picture donation or so is some teachers and principals discretionary that we don't get to use sight and the potato Nation Worcester same thing donation for the same so now let's go to our community give us a lot of money to build a beautiful ocean view and Marvin Elementary so how does this work 95 million dollars from our community are the hours of fruit measure T & E in 2016 in amount of 95 million dollars and this is the how the board approved identification for and you receive orders for project this is how we spend from the so we added another 5.7 million dollars because we received additional funding from the state police car state of facility grant that the Auburn school district is seat in VA about 5.7 million dollars from that in division was the reason was it when this person was passed in 2016 Murray Elementary in 2023 it was not possible to be after 7 years later it wasn't possible to build it the way we wanted to do it with me up with the original vision and so we did what we thought would be prudent and applied for a grant we're really a long shot but you can't make this four major buildings to full School to Annex it 95 million we just had it in school till here in the Bay Area that cost over 200 million thank you so again that's who I was mentioned at all of this project when within the budget so we are really in a tight budget the citizens for community members they overseas monitors and inform the public for any expenditures of the spawn of 95 million in day it should be due on the annual report and we lot of donation compared to others is not so that they get a big donation from Pixar same thing with the West Contra Costa even the 400,000 when you look at the Democratic because they also have several donations that I know of don't buddy nobody we don't have a lot of XP companies who can support us and give us.
