Dear Ocean View Families, May 20th, 2019
As the 2018-19 school year winds down, and we prepare for summer, there are upcoming changes that need to be explained. As you may know, earlier this year the Albany Board of Education committed to rebuilding Ocean View School. In preparation for the rebuild, Ocean View students, teachers and staff will be moving off-site into what is being called temporary housing. Once all students have moved off the current Ocean View site, construction of the new school will begin. Construction is expected to last 18 to 24 months. We anticipate Ocean View students, teachers and staff will be in temporary housing through the Spring of 2021. The new school is expected to open in the Fall of 2021.
The move to temporary housing will be done in two phases:
Phase One – Fall of 2019
Our incoming kindergarten students will attend either Cornell or Marin School. Teachers Cindy Hatem and Monica Haywood will teach at Marin School. Teachers Eunice Kim and Hanna Miller will teach at Cornell School.
First and Second-grade students will attend The Annex, the new facility across from Albany Middle School, off Brighton Avenue.
Third, Fourth and Fifth-grade students will start the 2019-20 school year at our current Ocean View School location.
Phase Two – Mid-Winter Break of 2020
Albany High School is building an extension facility that is expected to be completed by the Mid-Winter Break of 2020. When the Extension is completed, Ocean View’s Third, Fourth and Fifth-grade students will move into it. It is expected that the Third, Fourth and Fifth grades will move during the Mid-Winter break of 2020.
Ocean View students, teachers, staff and parents want to acknowledge the support of the Albany community, as well as the students, teachers, staff and parents of the other AUSD school sites. The dream of a new Ocean View School would not be possible without this support. We appreciate being welcomed onto their school sites and into their communities.
During the construction of our new school, student safety is a priority. All teachers and staff at all sites are collaborating to ensure student safety and well-being during this transition. Both the Middle School and High School will have separate bathrooms for younger students. There will be separate times and/or locations for recesses and lunch. Ocean View First and Second-grade teachers will be working with AMS Eighth grade teachers to develop mentor/volunteer opportunities. We look forward to coordinating similar opportunities with AHS teachers.

Special Open House for the Annex:
On Thursday, May 30, 2019, from 6:30 - 7:30 PM, Ocean View families are invited to an open house at the Annex for an early preview of the facility. Parents of our First and Second-grade students will be able to visit classrooms and walk through the campus. Construction will probably not be completely finished, but it will provide us with a preview.

Friday, June 21, 2019, Early Bird/Late Bird status will be available for you to view through the AERIES PORTAL after 4:00 PM. Once you have logged into Aeries, go to the Demographic screen. You will see "EB or LB" on right-hand side near the bottom.
Monday, August 4, 2019, the Aeries Parent Portal will be open for parents/guardians to complete/update their data information.
Friday, August 22, 2019, Class/Teacher Assignments will be posted in Aeries for parents/guardians to view.
