BIKEMOBILE & pedestrian rodeo AT OCEAN VIEW (PLAYGROUND)—SATURDAY, 6/4 (1:00 PM – 5:00 PM):   We want to see more students riding their bikes to school and over the summer! We know some of your bikes aren’t working so great and that’s why we’ve invited the BikeMobile to provide Free Tune Ups for everyone here! Is your bike making one of those mystery sounds? If so, bring it to school on Saturday, June 4 because from 1 to 5 o’clock, the BikeMobile will be providing free tune ups and repairs! The BikeMobile can fix flat tires, adjust brakes and gears, and even replace broken or worn out parts like chains, seats, and tires. The only thing it can’t do is replace missing wheels or gears.  While the mechanics work on your bike they’ll explain how your bike works and how to keep it running smooth.  At 2 PM there will be a special flat tire workshop so you can learn how to fix flats yourself!  Bike or no bike, everyone is welcome to attend! This is a first come, first serve event. We can only guarantee to fix the first 20 bikes that sign up, so please come early!  We welcome parent volunteers who want to help with signups and repairs. To sign up as a volunteer and to learn more about our great program log onto www.bike-mobile.org or contact [email protected]Also on Saturday June 4, the Pedestrian Rodeo is Coming to Ocean View from 1-5 PM – All Walkers Welcome! The Safe Routes to Schools program will set up a miniature city on the North Ocean View playground.  Students will get a fun and interactive, hands-on lesson that allows them to experience traffic situations as pedestrians in a safe learning environment. Your child’s ability to recognize and avoid traffic hazards will improve after learning the following skills in the Pedestrian Rodeo: * Safe Walking Behavior * Understanding traffic signs and signals  * Recognition and avoidance of common pedestrian collisions * How to share the sidewalk with other walkers, runners, rollers and riders. The course allows structured groups of 25-35 students in K-5th grade walk through together.  The Pedestrian Rodeo is first come first serve, but a new group will get to go through every hour or so.  There will be a small sweet treat for every participant after they finish, and they will get to work it off practicing their new skills as they commute to and from school and over the summer!
